Coordinates use two axes: X (horizontal) and Y (vertical). Their crossing is the ORIGIN (0, 0). Points are labelled (x, y).
To plot (4, 3): go 4 right along X, then 3 up on Y. Mark. Reverse to read. Coordinates can also be negative — points can be in any of the 4 quadrants.

Real maps use grids too. Use grid references or coordinates to describe locations. Distance can be measured with the map's SCALE — like '1 cm on map = 10 km real'.
To plot the point (2, 5) we move:

The vertical axis on a graph is the:

On a map grid, square B3 means:
