Coordinating conjunctions join equal parts. There are seven: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so. Remember them with FANBOYS. 'I like tea AND coffee.' 'It was cold, SO I wore a coat.'

Subordinating conjunctions join a main sentence to a helper sentence. Examples: because, when, if, although, since. 'I stayed home BECAUSE it was raining.' The helper explains the main.
