In Mathematics we use special symbols. Plus (+) means add. Minus (−) means subtract. Times (×) means multiply. Divide (÷) means share equally.

The equals sign = means 'the same as'. 4 + 3 = 7 means four plus three gives the same value as seven. Both sides must balance!

The crocodile mouth always opens towards the bigger number! > means greater than. < means less than. Think: the big end faces the big number.
